i think the masonite i used was 1/4" thick. i used a saber saw to cut it.. you know, one of those little handheld jig-saw sort of deals with a fine blade on it. i took a piece of sandpaper and went around the edges real quick like to smooth them out (even though the plates aren't even visible).

what i did, with pretty good results, was very similar to whole 'sandwich' baffle except i didn't bolt the whole thing together. i took two 14" circles cut out of masonite (for a 14" drum) and mounted the first one in the drum. then i just laid a piece of 1" foam (like the eggshell st...

more photos. http://www.cookievolcano.com/photos/front.jpg another shot from the front, with the tom and snare attached. the snare isn't wrapped (i didn't have enough), but i kind of like it natural. the finish is nice on it, and it's a nice contrast to the rest of the set. http://www.cookievolcano....

i bought a peace manhattan kit and was pretty happy with it and all, but wanted an "actual" cocktail kit.. so i just unwrapped the two shells, stuck 'em together and re-wrapped them in a great glass-glitter green. wrapped the little tom too. then i bought a yamaha side snare for it. i shou...

jonathan richman's new DVD..

.. "Take me To the Plaza" has tommy larkins playing his ludwig cocktail kit throughout the entire performance. he has the cocktail drum (set up as a tom on top), a small tom and a standard snare on a stand raised up to standing height. i've seen jonathan and tommy play a bunch of times, an...

i also have a peace manhattan kit, and i'm quite happy with it (after tinkering with it a lot) the cymbal arms are VERY long. lots of modding was needed to get them into a comforatable position. the tom arm also holds the tom at a very strange angle, but i don't use the tom anyway. the pedal is nice...

your project sounds great. i just bought a peace manhattan kit, but i've been considering building a cocktail kit completely from scratch.. who knows. anyway. tommy larkins (jonathan richman's drummer) usually uses a very cool vintage ludwig champagne sparkle kit. i didn't look closely enough to see...
