Reverse pedal
I have a reverse pedal for sale-- no name ("Bassix"), made in China (of course) but very substantial-- mounted on a platform; looks to me to be the exact quality of one of my made-in-Japan Yamaha pedals. It was a standard pedal, but I was able to easily turn it around. I can send pics if y...

OK, PC it is!
I just answered my own question. Works automatically on my PC. Pity. I prefer my Mac. Anybody get it to work on a Mac?

Hold on, Everybody, sounds like I misremembered!
John: I could have sworn I saw more than the one kit when I watched that video; but it was on VHS tape, and over a year and a half ago. I'm sorry if I got it wrong and mislead you. It's possible that I misremembered-- conflating the video with the pics in the gallery in the Four Freshmen's web site....

Four Freshmen Video on DVD-- "Easy Street"
See the discussion string of the same name. (John, I finally located it... as per our email discussion over a year ago.)

Four Freshmen Video on DVD-- "Easy Street"
This is a collection of performances by the original Freshmen on the Ray Anthony television show back in the '50s. It is interesting for a couple of reasons-- both of which were discussed here over a year ago in separate strings: one about what the repertoire was for "cocktail gigs" back t...

Remix rides
Famous Willy: You are absolutely right about variation from cymbal to cymbal with the Remix rides. I had the rare opportunity of playing three of the 18" Remix "Breakbeat" rides side by side in a local Music-go-Round. One was used, two were new. The used one was very muted... sounded ...

The Ray Anthony video
John: I've just done a search... I suspect that this video is out of print. I'll have to borrow it again from the friend who loaned it to me, and get the publication info. I remember it was a "Ray Anthony Production." But googling Ray Anthony now gets you some guy who wants to develop your...

What they played in the 50's
I have managed to find and view/listen to a videotape of the original Freshmen as they regularly appeared on The Ray Anthony television show-- 1956-- (Anthony was a popular big band leader of the time.) The songs they sang/played then are still pretty much the book that the current Freshman are pres...

playing sitting
Bruce: It is easy to play the Jordan kit sitting-- if you scroll down the discussion list you'll see an earlier topic I posted (back in Oct.) "Play Sitting?" In addition to raising the high hat, I've also moved the bass drum pedal further under the drum for a more comfortable, playable cle...

The Four Freshmen
I don't know if the original Four Freshmen used a cocktail set back in 1949 and after (I suspect they did, but I'll do some research, and report back.) However, the current incarnation of the Freshmen uses a Jordan Kit to excellent effect. Check out "The Four Freshmen; Live in the New Millenium...

cases for Jordan
There's another string here somewhere on cases for the Jordan. Let me just reiterate that I'm very pleased with the cases Yamaha makes specifically for these drums(Set-YCJB.) They are well-made and conveniently sized. They are obtainable for significantly less than suggested retail. Try Musician's F...

I just received the Yamaha bag set
FYI The Yamaha bag set for the Jordan kit is excellent. I got mine from Interstate Music (interstatemusic.com.) I paid $109.98 for the bags, $11.00 for shipping, $6.05, tax... grand total $127.00. After having looked at Humes and Berg Tuxedo bags, and others, I considered the Yamaha bags a bargain. ...

good points
Yeah, interesting distinctions... it is, after all, a different instrument, isn't it. Apparently, now I'm trying to hear and generate traditional kit sounds on the cocktail. Trying to play it like a standard kit. I do like it that way. But maybe, as two of you have said, once I get comfortable, and ...

Play Sitting?
I've only had my Jordan kit for two weeks, and maybe that's not long enough to be comfortable playing standing. But I'm intending, unless the stage is more cramped than those I play on lately, to sit while I play. I like to be able to play a standard hi-hat, and I find crisp, precise hi-hat playing ...
