Slingerland Be Bop Kit

I wanted to post my "new" set that I found last week in OH. It's all here, but needs a major cleaning. Any one else on the forum have one of these? I'd like to talk to you. Planning to play this out once I clean it up and go through it. (the site is not letting me post any pics!)

Considering ones snare sound is in most cases the major sound of the overall kit, I felt that my 5X10" Eames custom snare was well worth carrying around....The other thing is that if in the future you decide to sell the main cocktail drum you haven't made any major modifications to the drum tha...

Robin, I had the same concerns when I first bought my 1964 Ludwig cocktail drum about 9 years ago....Believe me I tried a lot of different things to get a good snare sound when using sticks and was never satisfied until I had a companion snare built to match with the same finish wrap and using vinta...

Cocktail drum video/ 1964 Ludwig set with Eames snare

Here's some video from a blues.gig I did back in April in RI. Not the best video or audio, but the 1964 Ludwig cocktail set sounds and looks great! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A8ikytGYFU

snare wedge

Use the snare wedge the same way you would use the rim of a normal size snare drum for cross sticking. Dave Randall

cross stick sound

Try using a Russ Miller snare "Wedge". I use one with my 10" snare and it really helps to get a good cross stick sound. Check the picture of my kit posted last year in "Your cocktail kit"and you can see it mounted on the snare drum. Dave Randall

cymbals for a cocktail set

I still don't think I've yet to make up my mind or found the perfect cymbal setup for my cocktail set. However, when it is a low level gig, sound wise I'll use a old 12" pair of thin A. Zildjian high-hats from the 30s, a 14" A. Zildjian crash from the 50's and an A. Zildjian 18" mini-...
