Re: Still enjoying a Cocktail now and then: UPDATE

I stopped by the local Guitar Center here and picked up a Pearl M-80 10x4 snare. It really sounds good! And at $59.00, not a bad deal. I'm using the stock Pearl Pro-tone heads which don't sound too bad. I like how it is bigger than the 8 inch snare that came with my kit. Now if it only came in Orang...

Still enjoying a Cocktail now and then

Hello all. I kind of forgot about this forum. I see another member is back after a terrible accident. I just wanted to add welcome back and thank God you are alright now!!! Anyway, I really don't do much cocktail gigging. I run adverts here and there on CraigsList but it's hard to find the right peo...

Re: Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

The audition went...

HORRIBLE!

Fifty year old guys who played like 13 year olds.

Ouch.

Re: Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

I just got a hit on Craigs-list and will be playing a gig next month. It's a charity event, but could lead to more playing situations. The event planner scoffed at a drum kit at first, but when she heard it would be a little cocktail kit, she were overjoyed!

Re: Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

I would, be we have a control freak music director there and you have to PETITION to do anything , musically. Which basically means NO every time.

Re: Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

I appreciate the input but we have a full drum kit at our church and I have sat in from time to time when the drummer can't make it.

Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

Unfortunately, finding ANY gig these days, let alone one that features a cocktail kit, is getting very difficult. I can't seem to convince too many players to go low volume or play acoustic instruments, especially those pesky guitarists, so I'm going to have to mothball the cocktail kit... again. Ho...

Re: Fund raiser for Denis Stauffer's family

Heard about this on the Drumsmith.com forum. Tragic. And so young.

I actually had a very nice conversation with Denis several months ago when I was considering a Stauffer cocktail kit. He really built some wonderful drums.

Re: Billy Blast Taxi Cab Cocktail + Mini Set

Taxi Cab Kit: The only thing I'm not crazy about is the double track brackets used to secure the bass drum pedal. I don't understand the concept: Why is it so high up on the drum shell? Would someone want to raise up their pedal 15 inches? Also, it really detracts from the shell finish.

Re: Pre WWI travel kit

You could wrap the snare in a small blanket and wouldn't have to worry about damage to either drum.

A certain 'vibe' when playing a cocktail kit?

Have you all ever noticed that when you play a gig with your cocktail kit, you unconsciously (or consciously?) adopt a certain vibe? Something akin to smokey rooms with a lot of velvet... or your playing takes on a hep-cat, swingin' feel? And don't you just naturally want to wear a tie and beret, or...

Re: Need crash/ride, mini-hihat ideas

I think I'll try pairing those Meinl hats you mentioned with my Paiste crash. They should be compatible, being that both are made in Germany (the lower end Paiste pies are German-born and not from Switzerland).

thanks, Idaho!

Need crash/ride, mini-hihat ideas

This has been addressed before, but can you all give me some ideas on what is a good 10-12 inch hihat and 18 inch crash/ride combo? Brand, weight, price... are all important considerations. I recently played a gig with my current cymbal set up: Two 10 inch Wuhan splash cymbals paired together for th...

Re: Picture from Cocktailin' Christmas Gig

It was fun, but COLD! I didn't find out until I got there, that we were playing outside. But we mustered thru it. I also found out late that the boards didn't have enough microphone channels so I couldn't croon a couple of tunes. Oh well, next time!
