Sorry John, Prolly a good idea if you'd like to move this to the "your cocktail set" forum. I didn't realise where I posted!

finally some cocktail set pictures!

Alright cats, finally, here are some pictures of my drum set, which has come a fair way, but still has a long way to go! I will include some excerpts from previous posts I have made that correlate with the photos. Firstly, my main ensemble at the moment is a really freaky funk trio of electric bass ...

I managed to jerry rig a snapped cable back to the pedal-to-cable "piston" inside the casing (a generic high-hat cable setup) with a good pair of pliers (tightening a shaft-nut over the knot in the cable against a bolt with a hole drilled through- the original cable had snapped and left th...

update: I'm still alive!!!

Hi guys, I know it's been like a year since I last posted, but I have been so engrossed in my study. This doesn't mean I have been any less engrossed in my cocktail kit though! Now this years exams are nearly over, I am determined to finally upload some photos and explanations of my kit. One major t...

That sounds interesting BykrMyk, but I doubt I'd go that far in the name of experimentation at this stage. I would like to hear more about this, however. jmettam: You are certainly right, I discovered today just how much difference even a small shift in beater position can alter sound. And managed t...

Thanks both of you, I'm about to go and have a play with my drums, and see if I can get that bass note a little nicer : )

Cheers BongoJimi,

I have heard of people adding small vents to their batter heads with reinforcement rings. I was quite skeptical about their useability. So no one's tried it...

Increasing bass drum volume

Any ideas? Would substituting vents (in heads) for muffling increase volume? I've never experimented with vents before.

Cheers,

Hayden.

Wooden Bass Drum Hoops

Hi, Has anybody made the conversion to wooden hoops on their cocktail kit? These guys: http://stores.ebay.com.au/DRUM-GEAR-ONLINE-Drums-Cymbals seem to make/sell 18inch to 24inch pairs just quickly taking a look. I think they are into customs as well. I wonder how much wooden hoops would enhance the...

Apparently that is because they are prototypes and not currently in any lines - even though the disc bell is meant to be part of the mist series. These can all be found on their eBay auctions however. These guys also make plain drum shells, if you check out the other section of their site, or on the...

Follow up: Salbell mini 3.5 inch bell - bells dynamics are so soft that it is impractical for use as such - would have to be between small rubber washes, say, and struck with a triangle beater to get a soft sound. Bell works great when used upside down in bottom hi-hat and adds lots of presence to t...

That looks like a good triangle holder! I wish I knew about these when I used to play in concert bands... I always struggled with a piece of string :( Looking at it makes me feel like playing 'Soul Bossa Nova'!

I had no idea you could get felt core ones, sounds interesting. Do you notice much difference between clear heads and coated heads with the rods?

You make a very good point Bongo! I can absolutely see what you mean. I really admire the old big band era slings that were around.
