What do you charge for lessons?

This may be slightly off topic. If so please let me know. When I play the cocktail kit I get lots of comments on it, of course! As a result of those discussions I have been asked what I charge for lessons. I'm never really sure what to say because I don't teach regularly. I've decided to take on a f...

In the construction section of this site is at least one, maybe more (If I remember correctly) examples of how to use a muffler as a snare mechanism. You cut a strainer in half and spread the wire out a little and attach it to the muffler arm. You can use a bolt or a pop rivet. There are lots of way...

The bolt looks like a standard carriage bolt, with the square boss under the head so it won't spin when you tighten a nut. You could probably use several of those to mount different percussion instruments, but I agree, you wouldn't want too much weight on it.

You have a point. I've been trying to design one in my brain that could be played more upright, but I keep visualizing a cocktail set!

Where is everyone?

Not much posting lately. Has everyone gone back to their sit-down sets?

Congrats on the cajon. I made mine. I've used it when we play acoustic gigs. I just use my bass drum mike just outside the sound hole. It works really well. If you don't get enough highs try a mic you'd use on toms. An SM57 would probably work the best. Good luck.

I hope John replies soon, I'd like to see this set too. Can you post them in the gallery? Or send us a link to an online photo store?

Hi there, My band Taming Grendel, will be playing at the Sherwood (Oregon) Library Arts and Music (SLAM) October event at the Sherwood Public Library on October 15 from 6:30 to 7:30. It will sound different than a standard snare. It sounds better because when you strike the bottom head, the top becomes the resonant head, which is how a standard snare works. I started by cutting the snare in half. So now I had two to experiment with. I found the closest I could get to a real snar...

Hey Vic. Welcome to cocktail drumming. If you want to use one drum (snare on top, bass on bottom) you will have to install a baffle partway down in the drum to keep the bass from activating the snare. You should read through the construction section of this forum. Some people have shown us how to do...
