Re: Trixon Gigs

Really cool setup you have there. What kind of bracket is that on the main drum holding the boom arm?

Re: Larger port for the main drum?

For a 14" or 15" drum you could always use a coated powerstroke 3 for the kick drum head. That's what I'm using on my 14x24. I even used the same head when I had the 15" cocktail drum.

And you can get the wood hoops/claws for 14" and 15" drums too.

Any vintage videos or pictures of drums in action?

Anyone have any vintage videos or pictures of cocktail drums actually bein' used. Like anything from the 40s/50s?

Just curious as I have had no luck in my search.

Thanks,
Steve

Re: Re-wrapping a cocktail kit: Options?

The sparkle brite is not a wrap. It's a very thin adhesive paper. It was a pain for me to install by myself. 2 people helps. Make sure you get a straight cut when you line it up. Cause if you get off a little, it ruins the project. And there is no do overs with this stuff. Once you stick it and try ...

Re: Re-wrapping a cocktail kit: Options?

You could also check Jamminsam.com If you measure your drums, they will pre-cut the wrap for you.

I checked ebay and the guy doesn't have any active listings on the satin flame. Too bad cause I'm building a 60s style 4 piece drum kit and was really wantin to wrap it in the peacock blue.

Re: Re-wrapping a cocktail kit: Options?

That ebay link is sparkle brite. You can also get it from dickblick art supplies. The thing with the sparkle brite is, you will need to wrap it over the old wrap. But if your wrap is bubbling, it would probably best to remove and put a coat of lacquer paint on the wood. It's not gonna stick to just ...

Re: Re-wrapping a cocktail kit: Options?

I'd stay away from papers and stuff like sparkle bright. I tried sparkle bright. When I put the drums in the back of my SUV on a hot day headin to a outdoor gig, the sparkle wrap started bubbling. Maybe ok if you plan to just keep the drums in doors. What size drums do you have? If it's somethin' li...

Re: I need some help from cocktail drummers (Project Build)

Yea, this snare has some weight to it. I don't think I'd want to attempt to mount it to the main drum. Although your idea is great about the snare basket. I'm gonna keep my eye on ebay and craigslist in case I can find a descent 12" snare to mount. Your idea got me thinkin'. That would be a coo...

Re: I need some help from cocktail drummers (Project Build)

You're right. I think I'd rather carry the full size snare, it just really sounds so good. I think it would be too hard to try the snare under top head due to like you said....the rattling. I then thought, do it like the peace manhatten kit. where the full size snare mounts over the main drum. I wou...

Re: I need some help from cocktail drummers (Project Build)

There was a small delay, but finally picked up the drums today. I ended up usin the white satin flame cause it was cheaper and lookin side by side, I liked the white better. Also decided on a full size 14" snare. Not the best pics and I kind of hate what the flash from the camera does to satin ...

Re: I need some help from cocktail drummers (Project Build)

Had a little set back, but good to go now. Picked up some extra lugs off of ebay so I will be able to do a 8 lug drum as planned with the 4 legs. Also decided to go a different wrap color. Gonna do aqua satin flame. It just looks killer and I have always like the satin flames. It's a lot cheaper too...
