Greetings to all sundry, once again. Spiked Kat : Nice looking kit! re: REAL GONE : do you guys have a website w/your upcoming gigs listed? I get to TO periodically (am in Montreal) & would love to check your band out. re: AKG D112 : Certainly a very handy kick mic. The older D12 was bit more in...

heh - interesting topic... Cocktail drumming is where I started, and I only bang a little on the regular kit, so you may wanna take this with a suitably sized grain of salt. I find that I rethought a lot of the way I play fills - completely, actually. It's made me more of a minimalist than I already...

Cocktail Angst CDs

Hello again to all & sundry.... Was first very busy & then very ill, so I haven't been around in a while, but I've returned from the dead, for the moment. :) (BTW Randy - I will contact you in e-mail vis-a-vis my composition.) I hope John doesn't mind me giving a quick comment on his work on...

Hello Scott!

Welcome aboard - I have just returned to the board from a lengthy absence...

My pedal is a Gibraltar 5661 that I reversed with no major surgery. It was necessary to tighten up the springs considerably, but it is an easy back/forth switch.

if you need more info, let me know.

Well, I don't really play much yet, (just learning drumming now) but I do have two fairly unique uses for my cocktail kit. Purists may wish to hide at this point! First - I've built a sample library of my kit & used that for various productions I've been involved in. I just liked the sound of th...

Hi Jesper, I have no experience w/Rims, so I can't comment there, but I weighed similar alternatives to yours. My snare is 10 x 5 and fairly heavy. I thought about drilling the shell but decided against it. So, I have a cymbal stand that holds the snare drum and a 10" splash. Perhaps someone's ...

OK - here's the results of my experiments. Peter's suggestion worked fine, but I ended up using a small piece of cloth instead of paper, and that mellowed things out nicely. I will be on the lookout for the blue block - as I said, I saw the red & liked it but it was much too huge. Thanks again a...

Hi Peter & Capt Nemo Thanks for the replies. I generally use wood tipped sticks, but still found it a bit loud. I'm trying Peter's damper advice & will report back on how it works. I'd like to get it quieter, but with the same overtone balance, if that makes sense. I tried the red LP block a...

Hi Multiperc - OK, my top head is a coated ambassador. I used to have an Evans G1, but I really didn't like it for reasons not entirely clear to me. :) It's funny because I've heard the Evans on other drums & liked them, but this particular drum seems to enjoy only ambassadors. I just checked th...

Blocks

Hi All, I've been trying to find a wood block / plastic block for a while now & wanted to know if you have any faves. At the moment, I have an LP "blast block" (The green one). I like the pitch of it but it is much too loud for the rest of the kit. If I hit it lighter, the tone just va...

re: Tuning the big drum. I use my Star (16 x24) as kick/tom as well. The bottom head is a pinstripe, with one of those "falam slam" patches on it. I also have a strip of "polar fleece" type material that runs across the centre of the drum - it's about 2 inches thick. I found I wa...

Hi Mango, my cymbals are as follows: Zildjian A 18" medium ride, which I like a lot. I actually bought it before I began playing drums as I loved the sound of it & bought it to create a sample library. It crashes too. ;) Zildjian A brilliant 10" splash. I like this too, it sounds more ...

Hello again John, Wonderful - thanks for lead, will pick up a copy ASAP. I bet the eyepatch was a pain. There's a funny story about composer Iannis Xenakis and Le Corbusier, who were both blind in one eye. As you've no doubt found out, it plays havoc with stereoscopic vision (depth) to have only the...
