Re: Dane Clark - Coctailing at Farm Aid 2012
Hey Dane, I didn't realize you where into cocktail drums. I met you in Aptos with Omar when you recorded that Moby Grape album in Scotts Valley. Glad to see you are "supporting" Cocktail drums.

Pre WWI travel kit
I'll see if this link works. It is from a Percussive Arts Society Newsletter about perfection drums. Shows the bass drum as a nesting drum with a hinge so everything could be stored inside the bass drum. This is from pre world war 1 http://www.pas.org/experience/onlinecollection/PerfectionDeLuxDrum....

Re: Getting my cocktail set soon - really excited!
I've wanted a cocktail set for several years. At first, I was planning for a custom-made stave set, but the economy has forced me to scale back. So I'm going with HB drums, the black metal flake wrap at http://www.hbdrums.com/product/HBDBRETRO67B/HB-Drums-Cocktail-Drums-Free-Custom-Gig-Bags-Free-Sh...

Robin, I had the same concerns when I first bought my 1964 Ludwig cocktail drum about 9 years ago....Believe me I tried a lot of different things to get a good snare sound when using sticks and was never satisfied until I had a companion snare built to match with the same finish wrap and using vint...

Snare sounds
Robert, Another thing you can try, is "porting" the snare drum through the batter side head itself. This was actually somewhat common in the old days on drums such as round badge Gretch drums which did not have air vent holes in the drum shell. The drums where vented with a small hole, usu...

Congratulations Tony, You built yourself a beautiful kit there! If it sounds any where near as good as it looks it must sound amazing! I notice your foot pedal bracket and how you attached it to the legs, Do you think you could post a close up pic of the bracket where it connects to the legs for us ...

Internal mics
In case anyone wants an internal mic without drilling a hole there is the May Internal micing system by Randall May Corporation. It uses your existing air vent hole, and still keeps the vent & you just have a little XLR plug (without cord dangling) mounted to outside of drum shell. It's a little...

Also, my experience with machine shops is that their minimum charge may be too high to make it worth your while, unless you find someone sympathetic to your situation

That just seems way out of line for the price, doesn't it? Wasn't there one a while back for in the mid 700's? that seems more do-able. Maybe it's a hail mary post, if somebody buys it then the guy's made a fortune
