MM's Pearl Masterworks Cocktail Kit almost finished :)

Hi All, Finally ... after 4 years of design and testing, my Pearl Masterworks cocktail kit is near completion. I finally ordered the final main shell (after building and playing about a half dozen prototypes). I hope to have it ready in mid-summer of 2015. The snare drum (10") and the two toms ...

Re: Traditional Korean Janggu Cocktail Kit!

John,

I don't think this bizarre stuff is ever going to make it out of Korea. Not much to look at or enjoy listening to.

No wonder Kim Jong Il doesn't want this stuff on his side of the border.

Re: My new micro cocktail kit

Hi Bruce,

Very creative set up.

P.S. I've found that the Protection Racket Surdo cases make great cocktail drum bags since they are about 25" deep. I used to use the Beato bag (like yours), but the Protection Racket backs are a little lighter to carry.

Re: NEW Paarl ePro Electronic Cocktail Kit!

Hi, Although I've played Pearl drums for decades, I'm not impressed with this kit. The "electronic" aspect (heads, module) can be mounted on any drums shells. Also, I think a true "cocktail" kit should have everything attached to the main shell. With that said, the actual sounds ...

Re: My DXP Ludwig Hybrid ..

HI,

Nice work. I really like that wrap and how everything is mounted "clean." The little cowbell mounted from the hi-hat rod is a great idea too.

Re: Tambourine and other Percussion

Hi, That tambourine issues you are raising are difficult to deal with. A tambourine usually need so to be isolated on a stand of its own in order to function without being affected by other instruments or the cocktail drum. I uses a the red Pearl tambourine that has jingles that can be adjusted. It ...

Re: SuperBowl Chili Peppers - Cocktail Drum

Hi,

The Chili Pepper's drummer is endorsed by Pearl Drums and they just came out with an electronic version of a Cocktail kit for NAMM 2014. That's probably where they got the shell to add to his kit.

Re: Bruce the K's home-brew cocktail kit part 4

Bruce, Yes, that's a Beato bag. If you ever want Beato to make you a custom bag for you kit, just look up their website and give them a call. I think it is http://www.beatobags.com Robertm ... a 14" drum will work good with a cocktail kit if you purchase 14" marching bass drum heads (Aquar...

Bruce,

The homemade cymbal arms look great. I wish I had the ability to do that kind of work.

Re: Bruce the K's home-brew cocktail kit part 1

Hi Bruce,

Good ideas. I used to have a cocktail kit with the snare mounted directly above the floor tom and it really helped to put the Sound Off in between the two drums.

Re: TAMA launches cocktail kit

Digital Drummer, I think Tama was going for the idea that the kit could be played while standing or sitting. They probably got the idea from Gretch's recent bebop kit model where the depth of the 16" bass drum can be adjusted between 13-16" using the same type of hardware. Unfortuantely, t...

Re: TAMA launches cocktail kit

Hi,

I experimented with that design at one time, but the 6" single-headed kick drum isn't going to sound good. With that said, it's a cool way to make a cocktail kit that can be converted for sitting or standing (at the expense of sacrificing better sound quality).

Re: GP Cocktail kit is built sideways - a review of sorts

Hi Tan, Great detailed review! Thank you. :) I started playing cocktail drums with one of those "cheap" kits too. Eventually, I got tired of the issues you've addressed and ended up putting the money into designing and building a much better quality customer kit. You may want to look into ...
