Okay, the whole boxkit idea of mine kind of died when I was given my Sonic Drive 3 piece cocktail kit (which I am in love with!). Since I have the wood and my father wants to work with me on the project still, I've decided to revive the "not a gigpig" idea for a self contained box drum kit...

Hey ricky,

Could you explain how the chain is attached? Is it welded on or something?? If not, maybe look all around the chain to see if there's something holding it on that you overlooked like a screw, alen/hex key bit or something. Otherwise, I'm stumped.

Congrats on the new kit, I just bought a Sonic Drive set that I believe could be from the same company, re stamped. Either way, it's almost identical to the Verve kit. I have achieved a very booming rock sound that I would happily jam even heavy metal with. In regards to muffling the bass drum, I've...

Hi John, Funny you should mention the conga case for the side drums because that's what I used on the weekend, it fits the snare and tom nicely with a devider in between to prevend damage. I was hoping to build some kind of hard case that fitted everything but you're right, I should seperate them fo...

Cocktail Cases

Now that I've finally got a cocktail kit, I'm wondering what would be the most efficient way to transport it without it being damaged. I don't like just carrying it around as I am now. I was thinking I could make some kind of custom case with wheels that fits everything in it or maybe two seperate c...

Recieved my Cocktail Kit

Hi, I receieved my cocktail drum kit this week and I'm pretty happy with it. It's a pretty standard setup from what I've seen. 8" snare and 10" tom hanging off a 15"x25" floor tom/bass main drum. I love the colour, the wood was advertised as maple. I don't know how much of it is ...

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I will go ahead and buy that kit. I know with some nice skins and the right settings on everything I could make it sing :D

I shall post some pics if I do buy it.

Cocktail drum set on ebay

I've decided that the money I would need to spend on making my own cocktail rig would total enough so that I could justify buying one instead :) I know it would be better to make my own but I think this kit on ebay looks pretty good. Can someone check it out and tell me what they think? http://cgi.e...

There are so many possibilities, I suppose I should just try things out before I cut or drill or BUY anything, haha. The money just burns a hole in your wallet if you keep it too long I guess :) I've been getting a really cool jungle bass drum sound out of the 14" and that's with a dodgy old st...

Thanks for the ideas Multiperc, very interesting. Last night i took the bottom hoops off the snare and top hoops off the floor tom. I simply gaff taped the two together so I could see what it would be like attached. I used an internal dampener with a cut snare wire attached up against the bottom of ...

Yes I do have a digital camera, I will take photos as I complete each stage and post them later. Those pictures give me a better understanding of your design Peter, thanks. I have to ask, do you find it uncomfortable to play your boxtail on the right foot? When I play my sit down cocktail set with t...

Attaching a 14" snare drum to 14" TOM for big drum

I have an old pearl forum metal snare from my first drum kit. I have a 14" floor tom I bought to experiment with cheap. I'm going to make them into a cocktail drum. Does anyone know a good way to go about doing this, cheaply? I was thinking I could use tom legs to attach them and also allow the...

Thanks for the help guys. That would be helpful if you could send me a drawing of your design Peter, I'd appreciate it. I'm planning on installing tom legs on at least one corner of the box when it's done to allow for tilt and hopefully height adjustment. The box should be a good height for me, I ho...
