Neat concept, putting a full size snare above the vertical bass. Just bolt on a few extra tom mounts, no need to tool up for any new parts. No clue about the mythical "iso-facto". The downside (and this is a big one), is that now you can't use the top of the main drum as a tom. Yet another...

Sounds like a standard 1960's Slingy cocktail drum to me. Perhaps it's been parted out, but if the shell is good, it should be no problem to restore.

Desrcribe the badge. Gold/black or silver/black? Serial number? I'm guessing a "P" is stamped inside the shell.

Look throu...

You're gonna hate me for this, but if I'm playing a bigger show, I use conventional drums. My philosophy is this: If I need to mic my cocktail kit, I brought the wrong drums. It has very little to do with looks, though - I've just NEVER been able to do a quality job mic'ing my Phatties.

Welcome! It's great to see our little "cult" catching on.

The lug choice is ALL personal preference. They all work the same, so what do you want to look at? I preferred the Slingerland for the vintage vibe, but whatever you pic is cool.

Pedal choice? Read my "Modern...

Any good tom mount will work, and the "Z" rods are available from any drum shop that sells multi-percussion. The rods show up on cowbell, tamb. etc. set-ups all the time.

I'm partial to Phattie for my cocktail gear as well.

I think you have a great starting point with the Ambassador/Powerstroke setup. 18X20?!? Can you say bass?

I use rods all the time. Not sure why, but they just "feel" right on a cocktail kit.

I guess I shouldn't vent or baffle. It ain't broke, so no fixing is required. Although an angled baffle with a vent at the 'end' might be the best of all worlds. Hmm..... Remember North Drums? That should eliminate the dead spot. Whattaya think?
OUSTANDING!

Keith; What can I say? I love it! The vent holes look much better than I had pictured them in my head. In fact, they give the drum a cool 'retro-modern' vibe.

One question: What kind of tom sound can you get with the snares off? I ask because I might try the venting, bu...

Well Keith, it looks like my venting idea wasn't so 'out there' afterall. Logic made me believe it would have some benefits. Now I HAVE to see your drum! Post them pics, soon!

The oreo baffle is a nice touch, too. But how did you mount it? Did you try using styrofoam (or other dense cell fo...

I'd love to see the baffle you made. I've contemplated making one - even though I don't use the top as a snare. It would still be nice to seperate the sounds. Post some pics when you can.

I've even thought about 'venting' the drum (i.e. big holes in the side). However, that's a bit too perm...

I've been using my Phattie cocktail kit for a couple years now, and have experimented with several pedals, heads, mounts, legs and accessories. (BTW, Phatties continue to be the most 'realistic' cocktail set-ups available, IMHO.) Keep in mind, that I've used the kit with a few different bands - doin...
