After investing $6.00 I built a cheap remote hi-hat stand set-up. I was able to work the hat and decided it would be worth investing in a real Remote Hat. I decided on DW, partially cause I really like their hardware and I already own a crap load of the stuff. I looked into Pearl, cheaper but not as...

Just for the learning purpose what is John Mettam's secret. John could you give us some insight on your skin configuration or skin baffling technique. I like the sound of my setup but I also liked it without the baffling (more open sounding) but when mic-ing the kick it sounded like the snare. That'...

It may not be obvoius but you could go to the local Home Depot or hardware store that sells bulk wood, they often will cut wood and stuff for free. You could throw a guy some small cash to drill out 2 holes, just have the drum all mapped out for the guy cutting it. You may also be able to talk to a ...

Hi Thad, i'm not sure how gut snares would work, it may be pretty interesting though. I personally don't have enough info about those snares but I think it might not give you the outcome your looking for but it's all worth a try to find the ultimate setup. The wood board is used for what ever you wa...

Famouswilly, all snares will bleed. This is not a bad thing, if fact I've yet to hear a snare that didn't and when they didn't they absolutely sounded like crap. I have very little rattle to none with my baffling at low volumes and at high volumes there is some rattling but it is very short, it goes...

Well the set up on the Club Jordon set has the fan maybe a third into the head (3 to 4 Inch fan I think) for length. If you hit the snares you do get that sound that you are talking about. I believe if you shorten your wires you'll get a better sound. You don't really want to hit the snare unless th...

Just as point of interest of how I baffled my set up, Remo coated Emperor head, small square piece of foam place on inside of shell against the skin. Then I cut a round 1 inch thick piece of foam to seal off some vibration. I then cut out a 14 inch Evans G2 head as close to the rim as possible and p...

I finally got to play my Yam, Club Jor cocktail kit. After change of usual skins and various tunings I was able to get a reasonable kick/snare sound. Ofcouse I took it to my studio set up and decided to get a Mics Ear on it. Man did it SUCK. The kick sounded like the snare and vice versa. My ear was...

Remote Hat Stands
I stumbled across this awesome site and since I've just become a proud new owner of a Cocktail kit, I was wondering if anyone actually uses a remote hat pedal/stand and can play while standing? I realize there is an obvious balance issue but before I sink money into more gear, I would like to know i...
