What kind of head is that? 2ply? Muffled? Hydraulic? Also, what's the slam bam thingy, I don't know that term?

multiperc, I believe these timbales with regular tom heads on them will sound much like rototoms. I have heard from people who have done it, and they claim it's more like a tom than a timbale with thicker heads. I played some rototoms at the store last night and decided that if I try it I will use t...

Pearl Eliminator RH2000 Remote Hi-hat cable unit ***SOLD***

I bought two remote hihat units because while I was waiting for the pearl to arrive I found a really great deal on a DW. I have tried them both and the work great, but the DW's pipe length is better for my setup so I'd like to sell the pearl. $150 plus shipping, to the USA that will surely be less t...

I like your bass sound. You help me realize that I can probably do better with mine. That's quite a ride cymbal you've got hanging out there, I was afraid to use a cymbal that big on mine.

Re: Remote Hi Hat Conversion

Has anyone converted a standard hi hat to a remote? If so how? I sold my regular one and bought a remote unit. How's that for a conversion? :-) If you're considering a remote hihat unit, I have a pearl eliminator RH2000 for sale at the moment. It's a great unit, I just found a DW for a great deal w...

Saluda has a zillion different cymbal lines, making these bells hard to find on their web site. What series are they in? I found some bells under "espressions" but I can't find the 10" flat one you mentioned.

Cool. I see you've caught the bug. Welcome, and have fun getting set up. I love playing mine but I definitely feel that building it in the first place was the bigger thrill. I suppose that's why I'm always tweaking mine. Life is all about accessorizing. Cheers.

Re: mini timbales

Hi all Anyone using a set of the several available mini-timbales with their cocktail or microkits? I'm considering this set from LP to add to my cocktail and microkits: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Latin-Percussion-LP845K-Mini-Timbale-Set-with-Clamp?sku=440580 Send on some feedback if any...

So you would recommend many shallow grooves. The Hot Rods seem to make sense as well; they are another thing I have never got around to trying. Sounds like it might be worth experimenting with the groove pattern before knocking up the real thing. Thanks, H. I like hot rods. It's a good half-way bet...

That looks like a pretty darn decent pedal for thirty bucks. Is there or can you get a toe stop on the footboard?

The most significant issue with the Cobra, and somewhat with the mapex too, is that with the cam reversed, the pedal is really pulling forward on the chain, rather than down on it because the point where the chain rolls off the cam is above the foot insread of above the toe of the pedal. Is that geo...

Kick drum pedal issues

So, the first run through on my floor tom to bass drum conversion, I used a mapex pedal. Then I sold that kit and sent the pedal with it. I now have my Iron cobra adapted for the purpose. This pedal was substantially more difficult to convert due to the mechanical design of it, and there's another p...

Re: Cascara boards

I just came across 3 or 4 solid wood drum shell fragments and thought they might make a good do it yourself cascara board for people that don't have one. The pieces are raw, unfinished solid wood, looks to be mahagony and maple. They seem to be the right diameter, and are somewhat bigger pieces tha...
