Hi,
Yes, beautiful kit. I like the modifications you made. Do you play open-handed?

Hi, I love the Rute 505s too, but I've found that the Flix Tips work even better (see link below). They are similar to the Rute except that they have a real nylon stick tip on the end for much better cymbal sound and attack. They "yellow" colored ones work the best. http://www.flixproducts...

Re: Trixon Gigs
Hi Baker,
I play a regular cajon gig too.
I recently "pimped out" my box cajon by mounting a stix-free cowbell, stix-free shaker, castanets, and a splash cymbal. My cajon is like a mini drum/percussion kit now. Everything is mounted off of the cajon itself.

No, I've never been interested in singing while playing the drums.

Re: Yamaha 12 x 4 snare drum in steel on ebay
Hi,
That's a nice size. I use a 12x5" wood snare on my cocktail kit. It's nice to have the larger size for brush work and side-sticking.

Re: Aquarian Head Question...
Hi Baker, If you are using a regular steel tom tom hoop for your 15x24 main cocktail drum, I think the 15" Aquarian Performance II w/power dot would be the best option. The thick, 2-ply head will give you the lowest pitch and the power dot will give some durability and take the place of the bea...

Are you using the whole Muff'l ring (with the foam) or just the plastic tray?

Re: Modification updates
Hi Tom,
Sounds like you made some good modifications. I'm also a left-handed drummer. I play open-handed on my regular kit so I also have my snare and tom mounted on the right side of my cocktail drum (with ride and hats on the left side of the shell). I find it easier to play that way.

Re: Larger port for the main drum?
Hi Steve, You're right. There are some drum kits with wooden hoops and claws on all the smaller toms. Those kind of hoops could be used with a standared 14" or 15" head on a cocktail drum. I decided to go with the 16" so I could use standard kick drum hoops, heads, and hardware. MM :)
