Matthew, The Yamaha tom mount and the YESS adaptor are sold seperately. The illustration is the tom mount, which attaches to the YESS mount (adaptor), which then attaches to the drum shell. It's all out there, I ordered one from Guitar Center. The screws and washers and a drilling guide all come wit...

I have played one of the original Rhythm Traveler kits, with the larger diameter shallow kick drum. I spent some time tuning and dampening to try and get the best possible sound from the set as a favor for someone (without buying new heads). I was not very happy with the sound from the toms. The kic...

Well, no sellers here, so I special ordered a CJ percussion board from Guitar Center, $66. total. It includes hardware and the pad that rests againts the drum shell. The salesman at GC spoke to Yamaha and they told him that they only sell the silver one, not the pink, which I thought was odd. The bo...

multiperc, Have you ever put any cotton balls in your 16" x 16" ? If so, how many, and how does it sound? I have been thinking of trying that. Will the cotton balls still be effective if I smush them through the vent hole to put them in ? I'd rather not remove a head if I can get away with...

When I discovered Cocktail drums, I decided I had to have one. But, I knew I would not want to stand up and play. I began assembling components for a Cocktail kit over a year ago and am still not finished. The layout of the kit has evolved in the months since I started, but I planned to be sitting f...

I posted a comment earlier, but I've been experimenting: I changed my kick head to an Aquarian Performance II (with built-in dampening ring) with a smaller Falam Slam pad (2.5" diameter instead of 4" diameter) and removed the cloth strip from between the head and bearing edge. I was hoping...

Wanted: Silver Sparkle Club Jordan percussion board

I am wanting to add a Club Jordan side shell percussion board to my cocktail kit. If anyone has one in good condition they would consider selling, please get in touch with me. Also, you Club Jordan owners: do the brackets that hold the board attach under the drum lugs, like the Yamaha Russ Miller We...

Jesper, I believe I have the same snare of which you speak: Pearl Maple Memphis Popcorn Snare 10" x 6" deep (SM 1060, I think). I bought a Yamaha YESS mount and added it to the shell. Don't worry about drilling, the YESS mount comes with a drilling guide that you tape on the side of the sh...

My kick drum / floor tom is a 16" x 16" Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute Nouveau (what a mouthful !). I use a Remo Pinstripe on the bottom with a Falam Slam pad. Under the head is a strip of thin (cotton?) cloth about 1.5" wide, positioned off center. Being on top of the bottom head and n...

It was spring of 1984. I had finally moved from the parents house, and it was time to get a drum kit - something I had wanted since I was 5 and heard The Beatles records playing in my big sister's room. (NOTE: the folks were not about to let me play drums in their house, with me and my siblings they...

I started assembling my cocktail kit about a year ago now. I have played standard drum kits for many years, so I've aquired some good cymbals over the years. All of what I use on my cocktail kit are 30-year-old Zildjian A's: 18" crash / ride, 16" thin crash, 14" hi-hats, and a newer (...

I was wondering if anyone here has tried the Yamaha Subkick mic on a cocktail drum? I would think you could turn it 90 degrees and put it under the bottom head and get a great, deep bass drum sound. I know I'd like to try it. Buehler? Anyone?

I play a sit-down cocktail setup. I made a custom throne/case by attaching a Roc-n-Soc seat to a piece of 12" diameter PVC pipe that is 18" high. The seat fits perfectly over the pipe diameter (minimal overhang), and has a hinge in the back and latch in the front. I put in a wood bottom wi...

I use the LP medium wood block - yes, actual wood! It has the same great tone that I hear on Stan Getz bossa nova records. I have it mounted with two LP wood block mounts (one on each end) attached between the z-rods of an LP Mini Everything Rack - along with a cowbell - on my hi-hat stand just unde...
