Re: Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

I just got a hit on Craigs-list and will be playing a gig next month. It's a charity event, but could lead to more playing situations. The event planner scoffed at a drum kit at first, but when she heard it would be a little cocktail kit, she were overjoyed! Hi Tom, Good news! Glad you tried Craig'...

Re: Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

Didn't know there were so many of us playing in churches. I use a cocktail kit at our Catholic church every weekend. We have a very diverse repertoire, so we keep the cocktail kit, congas, djembe, cajon, doumbek, bodhran and various toys handy. The cocktail kit fits easily in the choir loft, doesn'...

Re: Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

Tom,

Well, maybe it would be good to try Craig's List in order to find a different church where you can play.

Re: Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

Hi Tom, Why don't you ask the worship director at your church to let you use the cocktail kit from time to time. People in the congregation also enjoy having a change of pace. You might also suggest that you use the cocktail kit with a smaller band to give some of the other people on the worship tea...

Re: Time to Mothball the Cocktail Kit?

Hi Tom, Don't lose heart! I've been playing my cocktail kit at a lot of churches over the past two years. I have no problem finding gigs because many of them are small buildings where drum volume is an on-going problem even when they use loud electric instruments for their contemporary worship music...

Re: Fund raiser for Denis Stauffer's family

Hi, Sad story. I bought my first cocktail kit from Dennis about 5 years ago and it's been the inspiration for several other cocktail drums I've built recently. I was pleased with the great customer service I received and the attention to detail that went into the kit I purchased from him. I hope tha...

Re: Music Fest Video

Hi Peter, Thanks for posting the videos. It's fun to see you playing your tiny kit! Just a couple of suggestions ... 1. The big chair you are sitting on kind of distracts from the kit. Maybe you could use a drum stool instead. 2. The snare, cymbal, and tom sound loud and clear, but the tiny kick dru...

Re: My Metro Cocktail Kit-Finally Up and Running!

Hi,

How does it feel to play the 10" tom that is on the right side? It seems unusual to have the floor tom between the 8" and 10" toms on the set up.

Re: Pre WWI travel kit

Hi,

Thanks for the link.

Interesting ... but I'd be too worried about scratching the inside of my kick drum shell (or damaging the heads) to make it worth the convenience.

Re: New music w/ cocktail drum

Hi Robert,

Yes, I'd love to play some Cowboy Junkies on my cocktail kit sometime with a live band. The simple and mezmorizing beats would be perfect. I play at a lot of churches but I end up having to do all kinds of stuff with the cocktail kit that is really meant for a standard set up.

Hi,

They sound like the Cowboy Junkies ... but without the guitar parts.

Re: A certain 'vibe' when playing a cocktail kit?

Hi, I understand what you're saying. However, I use my cocktail kit mostly for pop/rock church gigs and bar gigs. Hence, I'm playing modern styles with it. With that said, there is a definitely a different feel to playing the cocktail kit. I often find myself stepping away from the pedal and playing...

Re: DW 3000 pedal...

Hi, Yes, the Pearl 900 pedal is easy to convert. However, be sure to check and make sure that the DW has a reversible cam. Then, make sure that, when you reverse the cam, you can still reverse the chain or strap that operates the cam. Not all pedals have reversible cams or chains/straps. For example...
