Wanna hear something amazing? I had to read your post a couple of times to let it sink in.....but I may have told this story in another post (your first drum kit?) but for brevity sake, I was given a partial set of radio king/gretsch drums from a family friend who judging by his death in the 70s, mu...

hey ricky Yeah, it'd be kinda hard to determine with mismatched sizes. I use a pair of 8inchers on a Tama fixed hat arm, so with my cocktail kit at least, they're never open per se. I keep the clutch only medium tight though so that I can play on the edge for a bit of slosh, simulating a partially o...

Ditto on the wuhan splashes-as-hats... I have pairs 10 and 12-inch Wuhan splashes that I use as hats on another kit. And they are good especially on lower volume stuff. A generally softer texture and articualtion. Still loving my oddball 8-inch Paiste accent cymbals as fixed hats on my cocktail kit,...

Hey Robert Thanks for the link - those are da ones! I'll see if they have them in stock.... I tried the snare fan inside this long remo handdrum and though I didn't permanently attach it, the resulting sound was not so great. I was hoping for the throaty sound of an octoban with a snare snap, but th...

cymbal rivets
I've been looking for cymbal rivets and have not had luck finding the right type at the hardware joints or at the local GC or SamAsh dealers - looking for the package of 100 that ZIldjian has sold in the past. This is possibly due to all the good reasons why one SHOULDN"T drill their own cymbal...

an insane idea for sure! I do wonder if anyone has taken this double kit idea seriously or has actually gigged with it... Your cymbal set up is a blast and would be cool with just one cocktail drum! I remember your early posts and marvelled at your addtiona of the bulb horn. One of the coolest thing...

Surprising amount of stuff balanced on those 3 straight legs. Wowee! I'd be interested in how you mounted the tom and snare - as in a view from the other side. I love lots of stuff on my cocktail kit, yours looks like a blast to play. Probably sounds sweet too. Nice job! PS very cool 'f-hole' stenci...

Exactly as Will suggests - but this can work with other hat sizes too. Mine are smaller and thicker (as mentioned earlier in the thread) and the contrast between edge slosh and taper articulation is pretty dramatic. I do love what one can do with a pedal, but the challenge to go with a fixed hat pai...

Wish I was in SF, what a great city. I did do a fairly comfortable one-trip load in for an outdoor gig. John's suggestion for a small handcart is a good idea. In my case, I've schlepped my stuff sometimes several blocks-worth and it's not bad. Here's what I've done: cocktail drum, side snare, cymbal...
