Re: Larger port for the main drum?

It def. improved the kick sound; less resonance and overtone, more thump. With the port, I can add or subtract a muffling device as needed. I made a little round "Pillow" that I can toss in when using a kick mic and the thing sounds like a 22" kick drum! Even though the top is not 'sn...

Re: Larger port for the main drum?

Well, I did it. I cut a 4" port in the side of my main drum, in the bottom third of the drum. Sounds pretty goo already. I'll now begin the process to find the right sound combination. How did I come up with the formula to calculate the hole size? Well, it was pretty complicated. First I measur...

Hmm. Are you using them on both sides of the main drum?

Trixon Elite Cocktail Kit Review

This is a bit long, but complete. If you’re thinking about, or interested in, a Trixon kit, herein lies the information you seek… I decided on the Trixon kit based on price and looks, in that order. I read some good things about the kit, and some bad, but decided that for my purposes the good won ou...

Re: Larger port for the main drum?

Now THIS might be a solution to a LOT of kick/tom resonance issues. To experiment, I'd rather sacrifice a head than a shell!

Re: I need some help from cocktail drummers (Project Build)

@ MM: When I placed the Pearl mount that I have against my main drum, the radius was way too small. It left a 1/8" gap in the center that I feel will cause the edges of the mount to dig into the drum, or gouge the finish, not to mention that it won't allow a good solid attachment. Maybe there i...

Re: I need some help from cocktail drummers (Project Build)

Balance is important. I'm going to mount a full size snare, on my main drum, and my configuration will put it directly over one of the legs. This, to me seems to be the most stable position for something with that much weight to be in. My stacked ride/hats are over another leg, and my crash over the...

Re: I need some help from cocktail drummers (Project Build)

I'm thinking of mounting a snare basket and a cymbal arm opposite each other on the main drum, using 7/8" pearl tom mounts. They should balance each other. Seriously considering this setup.

If the snare basket and the cymbal arm were opposite each other on the main drum, they would balance each other. Seriously considering this myself.

Larger port for the main drum?

Looking to reduce the back pressure in main drum to get more punch from the kick and stop rebounding of the top head. Your thoughts? Purists, avert your eyes - I'm currently researching to see if boring a larger port, or multiple smaller ones, in the shell will improve the performance. My drums will...

Re: some tuning happiness for a 24x14 cocktail!

Thought I would share some good news - Additionally holding the beater into the head and playing the top head gives a new range of sounds, and with more pressure from the beater, a slight pitch shift coming off the top head. Lots of cool variations on this with brushes too. I was just playing aroun...

I'm using a set of Dream Bliss 12 inchers on my kit, and I really like the sound. At just over $140 with shipping the price was right too!

Re: cajon, for when a cocktail kit is too much to carry

First post on the forum.
I too am a cajon to cocktail kit convert. I previously played-out on a cajon, and will continue to do so for small, intimate completely unplugged gigs. I also use a percussion tree and bongos. I now gig with a Trixon Elite.
