The blue jam block is the way to go. The red one was too hollow sounding to me and the others are too loud.

A couple of weeks ago when we played, I setup and started playing. Couldn't tune as announcments were going on and such. I forgot that I had the top head tuned high for a snare sound. I was using my side snare, so I flipped the snares off big drum and detuned by feel. Never got a good tom sound, but...

Flat Side Drums

I've noticed that alot of you guys have your side drums mounted flat. I have my snare flat because I'm right over it, but if I mount my tom flat, I always manage to hit the rim in a fast fill so it is at a slight angle.

John, the new "Gallery" is cool. Can't wait for it to get finished.
Do you by any chance know the size of the "long" tom on the Willoughcraft kit? I've got to build me one of those.

I use to think Gibralter was some "el cheapo", johnny-come-lately company that was producing cheaply made parts for a cheap price. Why I thought this, I don't have a clue. I guess because I always thought that their pedals looked like that to me. How wrong could I have been?! I outfitted m...

Dinkus hit it right on. Try it and you'll see that it works. Good luck.

Hey Mil'
I have to get my wife to post pics for me, but there is one in the Cocktail Kits section of my set up using an 18" crash and a 20" ride. Take a look. Got a lot of compliments on my kit and stares the other night.

Cocktail Cymbals

Last night, the Jazz/Standards band I play in, did a high profile benefit gig and I took the Cotail Kit and a set of cymbals that I though would work and Man-O-Man was I ever right. I used, all Bosphorus Masters, a 19" ride @ 1533 g, a 19" flat @ 1540g and a set of 14" hats. They migh...

Me, I'm using an Evans Hydraulic batter with a muffle ring under it and one of those square rim clip-on mufflers kind of a med/low tuning with a coated ambasador top head tuned med on my 14X24. When I use it as a snare, I crank the top head up pretty tight. Good sound both ways.

Side Snare

Who uses a side snare with your kit and what size? I have one, 12x5 and use it most of the time, but since I am getting a good snare sound out of my main drum, I'm beginning to use it less. Just the main drum a 10" tom and my 6 & 8" concert toms occasionally.

I use an old Tama octabon stand without the octabon holder and put a memory lock on the post of the throne top and there you are.

Yeah, I do most of the time, but am trying to play more standing. J is right about being in controll of your highhat and being able to do more intricate work with the foot pedal when seated. Remember that if you get the main drum too high, you will have trouble with the pedal striking the bottom hea...
