Modification updates

I have a cheap, Empire cocktailer. After viewing some of the versions of cocktail kits on here, I saw that a lot of them have an 8 inch snare, 10 inch tom, and the main drum is the floor tom/ kick variety. Mine had the snare wires under the main drum and the two smaller drums as side toms. Sooooo, I...

Re: Need mini Hi Hat help....splash cymbals?

I looked into the Zildjian 10 inch hats. But I only paid $150 for the whole cocktail kit so didn't see the need to pay almost as much for the ZHT hats. Also, it seems more fun to come up with your own sound by experimenting with different options that are not specifically manufactured by a company f...

Re: Need mini Hi Hat help....splash cymbals?

As I mentioned, I just received a pair of Wuhan 10 inch splashes to use as mini-hats. They do sound pretty trashy, but not TOO much. Have a nice kind of old school Trad Jazz sound to them. Of course I just have them on an attached cymbal-hihat stand that came with my cocktailer, so I can't control t...

Re: Need mini Hi Hat help....splash cymbals?

I ordered two 10 inch Wuhan Splashes from Musician's Friend for $25 each. Should be here today. The hats that came with my kit were crap. I actually gave them to a kid just starting out on drums so he could have some splash cymbals.

Re: Re-wrapping a cocktail kit: Options?

Steve, I really appreciate your input and by all means, I am totally open to your advice! I'm one of those guys that if I tried the re-wrap with the Sparkle Brite, I would completely jack it up, cuss all over my garage, and rue the day I ever contacted the seller on Ebay. So, I think I will wait on ...

Re: Re-wrapping a cocktail kit: Options?

Jamming Sam was more expensive than Precision Drum. Both offered pre-cut sizes and advised tape or contact cement. But the total cost was between $185 and $200. The Sparkle Brite guy quoted $57, pre-cut and shipped. But I'm thinking the wrap he sells is the same grade (CRAPPY!) that I have on there ...

Re: Re-wrapping a cocktail kit: Options?

What is 'Sparkle Bright?" Would this work? Looks pretty easy. Also, do I have to cut all the pieces to correct sizes? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320702190631 I have a 24 deep x 16 main tom and two side toms which I believe are 5.5 x 10 and 5.5 x 8 but I'll have to ta...

Re-wrapping a cocktail kit: Options?

Hello all. I have a pretty cheaply made cocktail kit (Read: Chinese) which unfortunately after storing it in my garage, the wrap is starting to ripple and bubble. I could remove it and try re-gluing the wrap, but I'd like some other options. Plus the color is a cheap, metalic blue. I contacted a &qu...

Music accompanying this site

I'm really enjoying the music that is being played when accessing this site. Are all of the songs done on a cocktail kit? Can someone (Moderator?) break down the kit being used.... sizes, cymbals, etc?

Some great stuff!

Re: Question about snare wires

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I think I could possibly get an old set of snares and cut those off and solder them on. Worth a try. I had an opportunity to work with a duo who may be a trio now, adding me on cocktail kit. They are a singing keyboardist and say player. Gigged last Friday and it was a lo...

Question about snare wires

Hi all, I don't know if a lot of people come on here but I used to frequent this site a few years ago. I have a cocktail kit that got mothballed after a project I was doing bit the dust. But now I'm in a new lounge band and the kit I have worked perfectly! However, what happened was, I trimmed down ...

"Krut" is actually "Turk" spelled backwards and were Ludwig's answer to Gretsch's affiliatiion with the Zildjian Ks. Ludwig had exclusive rights to sell Turk cymbals way back in the day. I had a Wuhan 14 or 16 inch China (can't remember the size) and it was cheap and had this rea...

Hey there. The Sabian Studio crash is a thin, brilliant finish cymbal and not really something I wanted to use as a ride cymbal with this kit and then as my main crash with my Sonor set. The Camber cymbal is not something i much care about marring up. Its a thick cast cymbal so it should take a beat...

cymbals, cymbals, cymbals

Hi gang. I'm moving forward on my homemade cocktail kit. Thanks for all the ideas about mounting a snare on my floor tom. One thing I wanted to discuss is cymbal choice. I have a pair of Sabian Fusion Hand Hammered hats. They are 13 inches... so small enough. I really love these cymbals and think th...
