Cymbals
hey Multiperc, just to reply real quick to you. The paiste hats are actually hi hats, they are red ink, medium 14's. The place I got those is Starving Musician in Santa Clara, Ca. (they have a website) The drum guy there is named Dave, and He is a great Vintage guy, really knows his stuff. Anyway, H...

Cymbals
Wow! great topic replies. Most of my cymbals I have I bought years ago so I am somewhat out of the loop on the proliference of new cymbals and all the models & such. But reading through the posts I get a sense of.......That first, nothing beats trying out a cymbal live before you buy. Second, it...

You can probably add a bottom head if the diameter is close to the same at the top and bottom (though Trixon drums proved this otherwise...) Not to diminish the importance of a good bearing edge and a round shell, it probably would be at least ok if you are tuning it low and muffling accordingly. S...

Cocktail Drum On e bay
There is a gretsch cocktail drum for sale on e bay. I don't think the guy knows what it is, it is listed in percussion under toms, and listed as a floor tom. It is a single sided (no botton head) drum, no pedal but its got a cymbal arm holder, I can see a tone or snare knob and what looks like a tom...

Matthew Thanks for posting the pix. Very interesting - the extra height probably offers benefits or possibilities: extra positioning flexibility for taller players (and their backs) and larger air column for more tuning possibilities. Weren't some of the traditional Gretsch models also taller than ...

Re: muffling pillow
I went to look at a dw set this past weekend. The bass drum had a small muffling pillow velcroed to the inside. Seems like a pretty easy way to keep the pillow in place. This got me thinking about trying some muffling on my cocktaiul drum (something I haven't messed with very much). I was thinking ...

External Snare(s)
Ya know, it might not be the most serious topic but I just read the clever article about making an external snare by dinkus, and I think the do-hicky ought to be called a sca-dinkus!! what do ya think? The S is for snare, the C is for cocktail, and the A is just cuz it sounds better.

This Kit was a great learning experience, but there are too many things that I would like to have different, that I think that it would be better to build a new kit if this one sells. I have gotten too many good ideas from the other Kits shown on this forum. Out of the Cocktail Drum business? Bite ...
