Any suggestions for a best-buy cocktail drum?

Post by fabmartha »

Hello out there........ Can anyone offer any suggestions in a best buy new kit or innexpensive vintage kit? I'm a guitar player who's found a new enthusiasm playing a djembe, with hardware store straw brushes, as percussion in a trio band. A cocktail drum seems to be just the ticket and sound I'm looking for. Snare with bass seems to be the perfect next step. Am I limited to standing up to play these things or can you adjust them for sitting? I'm more comfortable sitting while I play. Can anyone stear me towards any specific models that you can play sitting down, sound good, and are relatively innexpensive? ..............Much Appreciated.......... Tim

These GP sets are a good deal:

Or you can make one. http://www.aitwood.com, precisiondrum.com, and drummaker.com can all help.

Sometimes you can find vintage ones or club jordans in the $250-$450 range on ebay.

Or, if you're looking to sit down, buy the cheapest used student level floor tom, tom tom, and snare you can find and a pulse bass drum pedal to convert off of musiciansfriend.com. Set the drums up like a four piece drumset without the bass drum, then put the bass drum pedal under the floor tom.

Good luck!
