Single Headed Drum

Post by jmettam »

Hmmmmm........

Well... I don't really get it either!

Some of the first 'cocktail' drums (stand up) were single headed 'Conga-Drums'. So I suppose they were more asthetic tom-toms. Then they started adding the snare. How people used them, I don't know.

I've heard of one guy who uses a coated top head and tunes it really low. When he plays brush patterns he keeps them pressed into the head so it sounds dry but then he can play it open for a tom sound.

I have one but I have never actually used it for anything.

maybe it was just an add-on drum for a cocktail set? That's the only thing I could think of.
