No Drill Snare Mount

Post by JGove33 »

Here's something I came up with for mounting a regular snare onto my cocktail drum using an LP Small Claw. Because of it, I was able to mount a Pearl piccolo snare that really goes great with the kit. I had just bought the snare a couple of months ago, so I really didn't want to do anything that would require drilling a hole in it. Let me know what you think.

Basically, I took out the z-rod that comes with LP Claws, flipped the Claw and mounted it on my drum using one the 3/8" mounting rods that came with my kit. I also took the z-rod and used it on the OTHER side of my drum to mount some cymbals...but that's another story. Here'a a diagram of how the mount works:

Of course, this is a no-drill solution will only work if you have 3/8 mounts on the sides of your cocktail set. A lot of the newer ones have them, but it's my understanding that a lot of the vintage one's don't. For a vintage set, it might be possible to take two claws and join them using a 3/8" rod. I've never tried it so I don't know. I think it would look something like this:

But I'd be afraid that at that point things would begin to get pretty cluttered. It's a tight but doable fit with only one claw. So, unfortunately, all of you vintage drum players out there may still have to whip out your Makita and make some sawdust. Haha.
