OT- Drum Tab Programs

Post by Dinkus »

Does anyone know of any programs for quick tabing or writing out drum parts. I've found only one program but it's slow to work with. My old hand notes are getting pretty beat.

Drum Notation

Post by jmettam »

Hey Dinkus,

It's been ages since I've used Finale but even back in the day they had a symbol substitution so that each note had it's own note head. I'm sure that at this point both Finale and Sibelius have really good drum notation tools.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, John for the response, I've heard of both and will look into them.

Do you guys know what that program was that they used in the movie Drumline? It looked like all you had to do was hook a trigger to your drum, play it, and the program would notate it for you. I guess that technology has been around for a while--my old drum teacher said his friend had a play-and-notate style program back in the 80's. Anyway, that would be a really easy program to use, whatever it is.

Play-and-notate

Well, I know that Finale did this back in the day as well. I am certain that it has become a standard method of notation entry. I think that you can download demos of both from the Web.

Let us know what you find!
