One question before I begin though, I've seen nothing about bearing edges as far as the main drums are concerned. Like in the build along with Kyle segment for example. What are the normal bearing edges used for the best results? I would probably use a standard 45 but I'm not sure if this would be proper.
By the way, I plan to build a 16" by xx main drum and a side snare. I don't really want to incorporate my snare and kick into the same drum.

I believe that most home builders get their shells with the bearing edges already cut. Most shell makers seem not to mention this so I'll bet they have a default cut that they do. You could probably order the shells with your own bearing edge specs.
