Baffling Question
If I want to baffle a 14X24 main drum that haas twin snares on it. How far up or down do I put the baffle? I was thinking maybe about six inches from the top of the baffle to the top edge of the drum.
That sounds good. Somewhere between 4" and 6" made sense on my drum, which was a 15". The higher I put the baffle, the less the drum sounded like a marching drum. Also, the deeper the bass and the less rattle. By the way--those Ludwig Billy Gladstone rubber practice pads make excellent mufflers on top of baffles. You can just glue them down with contact cement and glue some foam to the under side of the baffle, followed by another baffle disk. I also like some fiber fill floating on the bass drum head--it bounces up for the attack and falls down to bass-up the sound.
Sorry--it just took me a year of experimenting to find the magic combination for my drum, so I feel like spreading the news.
