Dealing with resonance

Post by Swampgas »

Today is the first time I have had the opportunity to work on my "micro" kit. It is a 16 x 16 floor tom standing upright, with "S" arms to be attached as soon as they arrive. The kick drum sound is about what I expected, but there is a huge amount of resonance in the top head (even with a lot of muffling.) I used a hole saw and made (2) 2-1/2'' port holes in the front of the shell that helped some. Maybe it is so noticeable because my ears are fairly close the the head. Maybe the ring will be lost in the mix. I may try one of those Remo muffling devices.
