I love your web site. I have a problem - I work on a
Television show here in Australia, we have this little
band on the show called the Gad Flys. The drumer in
the band plays a Yamaha Club Jordan cocktail kit. It
sounds dreadful - what can I do? I find it difficult to
take the kit seriously - I'm biased - I would rather
record a traditional kit any day. The kick, tom and the
snare lack depth. They try to use the kit in a contemporary
music setting - it's not working HELP!
PS I have a great selection of
microphones, the best results have been using one mic well
placed, multi micing presents problems - there is high level
of bass and guitars on stage. I've tried clip-on mics. Any thoughts?
Keith,
I've had some problems with the yamaha set also. In order to get the set to sound good...well,it depends on how you want to play it. I personally use the large floor tom as a bass drum strictly. I tune it as low as possible. I have used the usual akg D112 to mic it from the bottom. I also mic the tom from the top to get a tom sound. I EQ a lot of bass into it. I use the 8" snare as an 'extra' snare. I play a 12" snare as my main one for the coctail set..... OK, Hope that helps.
