Hi there.I would like to share with all of you other lovers of cocktail kits, my kit. I have just finished building it and could not have acheived he results without the help of the forum and all of the valuable information that is up there to learn from.This is my first attempt to post anything on the forum, so I hope it goes through. The drums are all hand made from Australian Jarrah and American Rock Maple. They are loosley designed on a Yamaha kit , but I wanted the seperate snare and deep floor tom ( 25 ").I am now using them on a weekly basis at gigs and they really pack a punch. I imported the hats- circa 1965 12'" Zildjian and the DW pedal from the States,the other hardware is a combination or Gibralter,Pearl, handmade brackets and lugs etc from Taiwan.I will offer any answers to questions, so hope you like my kit.My name is Tony.
Congratulations Tony, You built yourself a beautiful kit there! If it sounds any where near as good as it looks it must sound amazing! I notice your foot pedal bracket and how you attached it to the legs, Do you think you could post a close up pic of the bracket where it connects to the legs for us all to take a look at? Thanks
Thanks for the interest Matthew. The kick drum bracket is handmade from 12mm stainless steel and is just bent at right angle with lugs welded on to locate it. This bracket is fitted when the drum is inverted and being assembled. The legs slide through to locate it. You can't see, but there is one part of the bracket which has a flat section where the pedal attatches.A lot of the stages that I play on have material on them so the pedal grips straight to the floor with the velcro which is underneath it and you don't even need the bracket.I wanted everything to be very simple to build and easy on the eye. No clutter. It works.
Thanks for the question. Yes, they are made by staving the timber.The shells are 14 mm thick (5/8") and they are heavy. My biggest concern was the support for both the snare and side tom, but they hold well and don't move once locked in place.I can play a gig without any problems.
