Late 50's Slingerland Cocktail kit questions.

Post by jaxdrifter »

I just purchased what appears to be a late 50's Slingerland kit. Everything has checked out with a few experts on what it is, but the color is a bit strange. It was originally a light blue color (under the heads) that has aged to a teal green. I have seen a couple of older Duco colors age to similar. It does not appear to be a respray, this drum came out of a storage unit auction with what appear to be the original Slingerland calf heads and very light use. Anyone have any information about Slingerlands this color?

This is the only Slingerland 1360 accessory mount that I have seen from the 50's catalogs.

Top and bottom heads are old wood frame Slingerland calf heads. The top head has imprints and some coloring from the snares and muffler underneath, so has been on this thing for a long time.

Yes, even the original pedal bracket was on this thing. It didn't clean up as well as the lugs with Nev-r-Dul, but in good shape with some pitting. In this shot it has a modern head on it, showing the paint fade. The old calf heads that were on it when I got it fit a bit deeper onto the shell and covered the fade line.

I wonder if this was a custom turquoise finish?

Back in the 50s they did a lot of special order colors and I think that was a popular car finish as well at that time.

Check out this great article:
