Hello everyone! I guess this is a place for us "Cocktailers" to tell everybody about our kit, so here's what I have:

A Phattie Drums Cocktail Kit in Hunter Green: you can see a pic of this kit on Phattie's website under "Resume." It's a 16" x 24" main drum, with an 8" x 5" Tom and 10" x 5" snare. It's NICE!

I added some DW hardware: a 5000 Series Double Pedal, a 5500 Hi-Hat Stand, and a 9000 series double boom stand with two of those 906 cymbal stackers. Also added the upper portion of an old Ludwig cymbal stand as well as the included cymbal arm. (These are attached to the shell).

I have a Rhythm Tech "Moonblock" mounted on the Ludwig stand (for cross-stick effect)with a 7" Sabian Bozzio Cup Chime at the top. I have 10" Sabian AA Mini-hats, 2 6" AAX Sabian Splashes, 2 10" AAX Sabian Splashes, and a 16" AA Sabain Rock Crash (used as a Ride).

I hope to get a pic posted somewhere on the web so you fellow "Cocktailers" can check it out...
You say that you have a double-pedal and a hi-hat stand. Do you play this seated or standing?

Yes! I have a double pedal and a hi-hat stand. The only way you can play it is to sit down. I went to my local Wal-mart and bought a $20 bar stool...it works pretty well, but my legs go numb (the stool cuts off my circulation!). It's impossible to use the double pedal/hi-hat stand while you're standing. I have weak knees and I'm lazy too, so this set-up works great for me. I'll try to e-mail John and get a pic of the full kit posted on here so you can see what this set-up looks like. Bottom line--it works pretty well...if you're into the double-bass thing and like to have control over your hi-hat.

my "generic" cocktail kit

Post by palacki808 »

Hey, I'm Joe. New to the group and thought I might want to describe my kit like everyone else. I don't have a real cocktail kit yet, the student loan and truck payments are too much right now. After awhile I'm sure I'll call phattie drums and get one, but for now I have what I call my Generic kit.

Its a yamaha hipgig kit stripped down to a bass, snare, cymbal and tambourine. Cymbal and tambourine are on one of the stands that came with the kit. The snare drum is hanging on the tom mount off the bass drum when I stand up to play. So its not your average cocktail but it is a similar and functional idea.

new cocktail kit

I just bought a new peace cocktail kit. The peace company calls it their "manhattan" kit. I used one of these once before and was pretty impressed. I think it's definitely comparable to yamaha's club jordan. I plan on using it for swing gigs in pittsburgh, PA. If anyone here has ever played a bar in pittsburgh, you'll know what I mean when I say space is at a premium.
