Just wanted to share my cocktail kit with you all since I'm so proud of it. The main drum is an early 60's (?) Gretsch covered in grey sparkle. It's 27" x 14" with a masonite divider midway inside the drum. The effect is that each head gets its own resonator. I use a Renaissance Ambassador (I mostly play with brushes and very light sticks) on top and an Evans Hydraulic on the bottom. The oil filled head works super nicely to muffle any ringing without requiring duct tape and tissues.

As you can see, I'm not the purist that some of you are. I play the kit with a separate cymbal stand holding a small thin crash and a hammered ride. I also use a separate 13" hi-hats. Took me a moment to figure out how I'd do it, but I managed to convert my DW 5000 pedal to strike upwards (I'd be happy to tell you how if you email me).

I'll be playing in a somewhat traditional country group with a fiddle, guitar, and upright bass, so the kit should fit in quite well. I couldn't be happier with the sound of the drum and the sensability it's forced upon me: it just seems more appropriate to play cocktail drums senstively than to rock them out.

Cheers,
