Gil Polanco Custom Drum

Post by jmettam »

I went to the amdrumparts website and started ordering parts. The main drum is 18"x18" and I'm using a DW 5000 pedal that I reversed the action on. I didn't want to attach anything to the drum so I made a tree out of an old cymbal stand that holds a ride, crash, splash and Ludwig piccolo snare.

I'm using a Remo Ambassador head on top and the bottom is an Evans Emad which really sounds great. I'm using wood hoops. Because the drum really booms, I had to tape a gauze bandage to the top head. It cuts out the ring but doesn't ruin the sound when I play the top head.

I also use it as a conventional bass drum by sliding Gibraltar medium duty bass drum spurs into two of the leg mounts. I switch out the Ambassador head with one that has a cutout and use my Ludwig bass pedal. With the piccolo snare and a 13"x13" tom I made, I have a great three piece kit as well.
