new phattie cocktail drums

Post by palacki808 »

There's a post on the phattie website saying that Dennis will be making cocktail sets again in January. There are supposed to be some new features too.

Mine was one of the last he made because he had trouble getting certain parts. Hopefully he has a better supplier now. Its quite the shame he had to stop for awhile, he makes such great drums.

Hey Joe,,
I think mine was closer to the end than yours as I think you got yours before I did.

Now that I think about it Mango, you are probably right. I forgot you had a phattie. For some reason I was thinking yours was a vintage pearl. Doesn't matter, though. The point is: you're right.

I don't think that Pearl ever made a Cocktail Kit. I had the little vintage Pearl concert toms that I wanted to use with mine, so I sent Dennis Pearl look-a-like lugs to use, so it does look like a real Pearl. I even have the engraved Pearl Masters hoops on the Main drum. How much more Pearl can you get than that?

pearl look-a-like

That would explain why I thought it was a Pearl. I don't know much about pearl drums, but I do know they have been around for awhile and they made some odd drums in their time. So a cocktail drum wouldn't be too much to expect at some point in time.

Your drum may be a Pearl look-a-like and Pearl does make some really nice stuff, but its not like the drums Dennis builds. For the money you pay I don't really think there's any comparison. I couldn't be happier with the quality and craftsmanship of my cocktail set.

Joe, I couldn't agree more. I couldn' ask for a nicer set if I can just get the thing to sounding good. :D
