Question for Keith - Also, if you want...

Post by SJB05 »

Hey man. I build a bass drum similar to the one in your micro kit. I was wondering about the cowbell/wood thing. I dont know how you tune and muffle your drum, but i kinda use that sustainey boom sound with no muffling. Im wondering how your setup affects the sustain and tone, if at all. I tried something similar, and it just choked the crap out of my sound. Im wondering if im overlooking something. Lemme know. Thanks.

BTW - I reversed my DW5000 chain drive - would you guys like some pictures of that mod? I just saw the strap mod. Pretty cool.

I think the riser I built with that cowbell holder helps the sustain and projection of the drum. It's pretty loud, and can be tuned fairly boomy. I tune both heads fairly loose to get as low a pitch as possible, and use a 2-ply batter head.
