S.F. bay area cocktail drums?

Hi all,

I've come down with cocktail drum virus.

Is there somewhere in the San Francisco bay area where i could try one?
A drum store or generous individual? ( i have good hygiene)
Or should i just take a flier on an ebay cheapie?
I noticed the "exel Traveler" this week is back. Has a 10" snare instead of the 8",
but it doesn't mention the type of wood shell, and looks a lttle cheesy.
Or GP?

Hi Zorf,

Welcome to the forum!

I believe the current opinion is that the traveller is on the lowest side of the spectrum. Not the greatest materials in construction and hardware but it works fairly well. I think that the older GP kits were similar but recently they seem to have upgraded to all maple shells and more sturdy hardware and a small price increase.

Anyone in the San Fransisco area want to let Zorf check out your kit?

Zorf, I am near Hollister, Yesh ! I've got a couple of different sets, personally I like vintage gear but I've got a Yamaha Club Jordan set which will give you an idea of what a great job the new manufacturers are doing with their sets. And I've got some vintage sets which all seem to have their "nuances" with one thing or another. I almost always get comments on the vintage sets, right now my favorite is an old WFL gold laquer 16X24 which has a greeat bass drum sound but is not as solid or easy to play as the Club Jordan. Anyway, let me know, I will be traveling some on the weekends to play. Usually, We play once a year up at Schroeders in S. F. and that's a great cocktail venue. Matthew

Hey Zorf, where are you? performing brain surgery? Anyway a heads up on e bay, a pink champagne sparkle club jordan, a beatiful set item # 7419620802. Check it out. It wasn't at a bad price, around $600. at the time, you can't go wrong with a club jordan at that price... (i don't think).
