wooden rims

Has anybody here tried building with wooden rims? I was intriged with the
Whitney penguins because fo the woodenen rim option. I found these from
Yamaha. Do you think you could user these on a club jordan or homemade drum?
I'll bet they would'nt be that hard to make.

nice kit! What did that end up costing, so far? Or maybe you don't want to think about that. The wood rims look cool.

I can't really remember the total cost, but the rims were about $40.00 each or so. The shell was maybe $175.00 give or take. I bet I'm in about $600.00 canadian for the cocktail drum itself with hardware, rims mount, skins strainer Etc. The toms were made years ago for another kit of mine. I got the cocktail shell and rims from AIT but I have to say I prefer the shells and rims from Precision Drum Company. The rims from Pre. are rounded and AIT are square on the top. The edges and finish of the drum was a tiny bit better at Precision. However the cost was also more at Precision so, apples and oranges. Hope this helps.
