John,
My kit is shown in gallery 5.It is the blue sparkle Slingerland Combo kit. They are dated March 1963.the snare is 3x13, the combo drum is 18 x 20 and the floor tom is 14 x 14. I have Aquarian Modern Vintage Heads on all three drums. The batter head on the combo drum comes with a felt strip already attached. I am really impressed by the sound and feel of these heads. They have the most "calf-like" quality of any heads I have played. The kit came with torn calf heads on the snare and the original plastic heads on the other two drums. I have never seen another set like this, in person, anyway. I have seen John Aldrige's Ludwig set in the photo gallery.

I have used the kit on acoustic and semi-acoustic gigs with my old power pop band. It certainly is a conversation starter.

I love your site!
Hey Scott,

Thanks for the post! Here's my question:

Do you ever play the kit in the upright position??

If you do, do you play standing or sitting? With Hi-Hat or no?

Thanks again
John, until I saw the picture of the combo set on your web site, I thought it was meant to be played standing up!!!. But being a combo drum, it is not tall enough for stand up play, and there I am, gigging, hunched over this thing with the snare stand all the way up, hoping IT doesn't fall, and praying my back doesn't give out, to boot. The photo on the left is deceiving because it looks like it can be played standing up. But the combo drum is 20 inches tall and the legs only get it off the ground a little over a foot, so the whole thing stands at right around 3 feet or less.

It also doesn't save that much space, when seated behind it, set up vertically, because you still have a hi-hat, snare stand, and floor tom, and the the combo drum is 18 inches deep!

What a concept!!!
