building a cocktail drumkit

hi all
excellent site!!!!!!!!!!!!!im building a cocktail kit at the moment using 2 16 " floor toms one cut down i have got some really good ideas from this site.ive been playing stand up for years using a cut down kit,its the best way to play.all the best adamk

hi
i said i would send some photos of my finished cocktail kit.it is made up
of 2 16" floor toms,the top one had to be cut down to 13"i used 3 old floor
tom legs to fix them together.my brother rob sprayed them to give them a
more authentic look.i use a vintage gretsch free floating bass drum pedal
which has a very good action.thanks to all on the site i got some very good
ideas.adamk

Hey Adam,

I've been wanting to ask: What is actually happening there between the two parts of the main drum? I see all the hardware for the top head of the bottom half. Is that there for decoration or is there still a head there with most of it cut out?

Also, I noticed you are using a RIMS desvice to mount your tom off of the main drum. Did you see my little grommet tip to eliminate the 'sinking ship' syndrome and help the RIMS stay level?

The Rim mount is designed to hang the drum freely, so the mount will rock back and forth when weight is applied. To keep it solid, I added rubber spacers between the underside of the rim and the top of the Rims mount. I used a rubber tube that I could put a lug through. This worked perfectly!

yep there is a head in between the two drums i cut the middle out i think it looks better with the hardware.i used leg mount brackets and old straight legs to fix the two drums together.and yes i got the idea for the tom bracket from your drum.
