My cocktail set up

Post by MetalHead »

Hello,

I've had my micro kit (4 piece, 16" bass drum) set up in my bedroom for awhile now but need the space, so I've put together a cocktail kit out of my spare drums. I opted for a sit down kit so i could use open/closing hi hats and possibly doubly bass pedals later. I have a 14" floor tom as bass/tom, a pearl forum snare as a rack tom and my no name 12" snare drum on a stand. . The zildjian ZBT cymbal has never cut it as a crash but sounds very nice as a mini ride. I will be buying a second 10" stagg splash next week to make mini hats.

I am having trouble tuning the snare-tom so that it doesn't cause sympathetic vibrations with the 12" snare. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could stop this?

-Thanks, Michael

Wow 14x14 main drum. I Like it!

Makes me want to see a 10" snare and 8" tom!

Make sure you tune your tom like a tom (not like a snare). Looser head tension on the bottom than you would with a snare. That might help the vibration!

Thanks for the advice jmettam. I'm not finished playing around with the shell sizes. I will probably end up cutting down some toms and making small tom and snare (single sided). I really like the sound of the snare as a tom though, I may incorporate that into my micro and/or regular kit!
