I Drilled My Cocktaildrum !!
I Drilled My Cocktaildrum !!
Hi every body.
I have mounted a Kelly Shu system on/in my Yamaha Club Jordan Cocktaildrum.
See here: http://www.cocktaildrum.com/rap/viewtop ... highlight=
I found this on the net: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuse ... =237850407
and then I think, okay now is the time, so I drilled my cocktaildrum.
See picture on page 62 (DSCF1374) in the gallery 2.
Before the mic cable vent thru the airhole on the drum, so I have allways a cable hanging out of the drum. I am very happy for the solution, it´s more easy now to setup and take down the drums and I think it looks more cool !!
Have a nice day

Internal mics
In case anyone wants an internal mic without drilling a hole there is the May Internal micing system by Randall May Corporation. It uses your existing air vent hole, and still keeps the vent & you just have a little XLR plug (without cord dangling) mounted to outside of drum shell. It's a little expensive but sure saves set up time, and of course you don't have to carry around mic stands because your mics are already in your drums!
the website is: www.randallmay.com I have been getting mine at West LA music from the drum shop manager, Frank Eck.
Also, as an aside; according to the Shure Brothers, they recommend placing internal mics facing AWAY from the batter side. This always gets comments from the FOH guys, hey your mic is backwards! but they always end up liking the sound
