Just received my manhattan kit

Post by martin_likes_beer »

This morning I finally got my Peace Manhattan drumkit form germany!
I managed to have an hour setting it up but then had to go to work. As if going to work doesn't suck enough as it is!
I have it pretty much done but i need to tune it properly and i think add some damping to the snare as well.

Thanks to everyone here who has talked about the mods they have done, and what they thought of the kit.

I got sent the black one wich is a shame as i was after the blue. It actually looks prettty classy though as the PEACE logos are in gold , it looks like it'd cost much more than the ?350 it actually cost.

I just wanted to share my excitement with some fellow cocktailers.

Roll on 5 o'clock.

I had a great night playing my new kit. It certainly takes a bit of getting used to playing standing up, but it is so much fun.

I agree with the other members that the cymbal arms hold the cymbals slightly too high.I'll take a hammer to those tonight and fix that.

I found the best way to dampen the ringing of the snare was to trap a soft rag folded over a few times in betwen the top of the floor/kick drum and the snare head. This seemed to put just enough pressure on the snare skin to stop the tinny ringing I was getting.

I'm certainly impressed with the sound of the kit for the price it cost. It sounds great!

Manhattan musings...

Martin,

Congrats on your kit. Just a point of clarification: you did get the rubber practice pad thingy that goes on the top head of the kick drum, right? I'm curious because of your comment about using a towel to stop the snare ringing. (I don't have any ringing whatsoever and I'm using the snare just as it came out to the box.) If you do have that rubber mute thing in there, maybe it's just a production variation (or you have better ears than me).

If you didn't get the mute with your set (what Peace calls their "Iso-Facto muffling disk"), you just need to buy one of those 14" rubber practice pads with a raised spot in the middle that go over your snare to allow you to practice silently and put it on the top head of the kick drum.

Best of luck and enjoy.

I just bought my manhattan kit. Eveyone here was right about the cymbal arms, they are too high. It's going to take some getting used to, but I'm used to playing different setups in bars.

I think there should have been some type of memory locks included with the kit. They would have made set-up and tear-down easier. I'm going to the local hardware store to see if I can find something to use for memory locks.

Other than those two things the kit is great.
