Dennis Stauffer finally finished my cocktail drum. The one I had made a post earlier about having dual snares. It really sounds great with brushes, I go tit specifically for playing swing and jazz.

Dual snares
Hey Joe,
Sounds like a title for a song. Man, just looked at the pics of your new kit. Really nice. As a matter of fact, I just emailed Dennis about a set of snares for my kit. I have a seperate snare already, but want snare capability for the main drum.
Be careful, these things are addictive. I'm thinking about using mine exclusively for awhile, it is so cool. Already played two gigs with mine and everyone, audiance and band members alike, really threw the compliments my way. If you haven't played a gig with yours yet, be advised about taking a throne of some kind with you just in case. It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

dual snares
Yes Dinkus, both of the snares do drop completely away from the head with a quick turn. It took some adjusting, but it does work well now that it is set. I had a chance to experiment with it a lot yesterday. It sounds great being used as a tom/bass drum too, but I don't think I'll be using it like that. I'm not the biggest fan of the "side snare".

Mangorockfish, do you acctually sit and play when you're getting tired or sore? I tried to sit at my last cocktail set and everything seemed entirely too high to reach even with the throne up as high as it can go (roc'n'soc thrones can get pretty high too).
I'm not the tallest guy in the world, but it just seems harder to me to sit down especially with the pedal being so far forward as opposed to the typical drumset. Maybe I'm just not a big enough guy, or maybe I'm not good enough at playing the cocktail set itself.
If you want some help for your feet, try getting a piece of carpet pad to stand on for the gig, also gel insols work well if you play with your shoes on.

dual snares
Yeah Joe, I sit for almost the whole gig. I have the DW SIdekick pedal and can put it pretty much where I want it. I use a double braced Tama Cymbal stand with a regular throne post and padded seat. I'm 5'11" and my legs are spread kinda far, but I haven't weaned myself away from the "functional hihat" yet.
What is the brand of snare setup that Dennis used on your drum? I want to put it in mine.
I have an individual snare, but may want to just take the main drum sometime.
Man, are these things not cool? I love mine if I can ever get the right setup going on.
I've played two gigs with mine in the past month. One was an unplugged gig but the boys plugged acoustic guitars into the PA and it got pretty loud, but my Cocktail Kit was just "loafin'". Who says that these kits aren't loud? The other was a coat & tie jazz gig and the Kit worked beautifully at it too.
Please let me know about the snare set up if you can. It may be Trick. That is the kind of strainer he used on my snare.

The dual snare set up looks to me like two Gibralter internal mufflers with the mufflers removed and pieces of snares bolted to them.
